Contecon Manzanillo Reinforces its Infrastructure with 4 New RTG Cranes

Dear Customers

As part of Contecon's investment plan in equipment, four new state-of-the-art RTG cranes arrived in Manzanillo, representing an investment of US$8 million to consolidate cargo movement in Mexico's most important port.

In order to speed up container loading and unloading times, Contecon continues to invest in the equipment of its port terminal and reaffirms its commitment to Manzanillo by fulfilling its plan to strengthen and expand the port for the benefit of the supply chain.

"With the incorporation of these RTGs, in addition to the 4 we received in early 2022, we will double our evacuation capacity, especially by rail, thus adapting to the requirements of the market and our customers," said José Antonio Contreras, CEO of Contecon Manzanillo.

He added that "the arrival of this equipment, together with the investment of US$230 million in infrastructure and equipment that we will begin in a few weeks, as well as the construction by ASIPONA of the new exclusive access road to the northern area of the Port and the arrival of new inspection equipment (X-rays) for Customs, will consolidate and make the operation of our terminal in Manzanillo more efficient".

Since the morning of Wednesday, August 31, the vessel Zhenhua 23 with the orange cranes on board, was visible from different points of the port and, in the next few days, the unloading will be completed for its subsequent installation and commissioning.

Rubber-tyred gantry cranes (RTGs) are rubber-tyred loading structures that offer a wider range of operations for efficient and fast unloading and loading.

Given that the port of Manzanillo is the preferred gateway to the Pacific coast for traders from Asia, streamlining operations in Manzanillo is vital for the seamless flow of goods from all over Mexico.
